DARING GREATLY ✨ It’s taking me a while to ge DARING GREATLY ✨

It’s taking me a while to get through this book (anyone else?) and I’m at a part of the book that I’m really enjoying; & enjoying because so much of what I’m reading resonates on so many levels.

In chapters five and six, @brenebrown speaks about where shame begins, what it looks like in families & how it shows up in large organizations, schools and in our homes. One thing that stood out most for me in these chapters was when she quoted a young girl in middle school who said “There are times when you can ask questions or challenge ideas, but if you’ve got a teacher that doesn’t like that or the kids in the class make fun of people who do that, it’s bad. I think most of us learn that it’s best to just keep your head down, your mouth shut, and your grades high”

Reading this bothered me a lot because I remember keeping my mouth shut both as a child and as an adult in fear of being ridiculed or judged; I know I’m not alone.

It also pains me to know that at such young ages - ages where we are so impressionable, so many bright, and talented children are scared to speak up because they don’t want to be ridiculed...

The reason I wanted to share this is because I think WE need to do better. WE need to teach better because we can ALL lead by being better examples.

What’s more, is that It doesn’t just happen with children; this carries into adulthood too. Brilliant, capable humans scared to show up because they’ve been silenced or ridiculed for speaking up...

For everyone who shows up, especially on here, being vulnerable, putting yourselves on full display while often receiving the meanest messages - IM PROUD OF YOU!

It’s so much easier to judge the person from the sidelines but what matters TO ME is the person on the field, SHOWING UP in spite of judgement & ridicule. Showing up is NOT EASY but it’s so important to do because when you show up, you SHOW someone else that they can too.
